Michael is most known for being an Assistant professor in clinical psychology at UIC, where his research focuses on adverse outcomes associated with ADHD and ways to prevent them. He uses this research at the SUCCEEDS clinic he co-founded.
The research that Dr. Meinzer will be talking about today informed his current project, which is working towards depression prevention for adolescents with ADHD, and is currently being funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. The strategies he will discuss today are currently being used in that trial.
Something that impressed me about Dr. Meinzer is his dedication to mitigating the risks associated with depression and being a present-day pioneer in the field.
Dr. Meinzer’s interactive workshop will explore current research regarding how and why ADHD confers risk for depression.
We will discuss and practice ways to help prevent depression among adolescents with ADHD in the context of Dr. Meinzer’s ongoing randomized controlled trial.
Dr. Meinzer’s work focuses on examining developmental outcomes of youth with ADHD, investigating explanations for ADHD and co-occurring psychopathology, developing and implementing tailored services to address ADHD and co-occurring psychopathology for adolescents and young adults, & working with community partners to increase access to evidence-based services for adolescents and young adults with ADHD and co-occurring psychopathology.
